My technical supports to Mr.Akira Yamamoto
Mangroves forests create unique intertidal ecosystems that occur in tropical and subtropical regions. They support biologically diverse communities to contribute direct and indirect benefits to human societies.
Unfortunately, mangrove ecosystems are drastically disappeared by results of non-sustainable human activities and over-exploitation. I want to say that people must respect the mangrove ecosystem, and use its valuable and irreplaceable natural resources, and conserve its benefits to present and future generations.
Since 1978, I have worked as a professional staff of University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan, and since 1990, I have contributed my work to a mangrove-related international NGO/NPO called “International Society for Mangrove Ecosystems (ISME).” I have been to over 40 countries/regions to research on mangroves in my interests, and plant mangroves together with local people.
One day of 2005, Mr. Toru Yamamoto, President of YL Invest Company Limited, Fukuoka, Japan, called me up, and he said that he wanted my supports to reforest and afforest mangroves in Indonesia and other countries.
A couple of weeks later, he came to see me, and he told me eagerly that he did not want to get personal benefits, but he wanted to contribute something to reduce emissions of carbon deoxidize in the air through activities of reforest and afforest mangroves.
Finally I decide that if he does not want to earn his personal profits, I can support his mangrove related activities technically. I believe that he is eager to plant mangroves without gaining his personal profits.
I really hope that he will conduct his mangrove plantation efforts fruitfully and successfully
If you have a chance, please visit sites where he and his colleagues plant mangroves.
